I've been saying for months now that it would be important to watch FL over the summer. You can see here Delta comes at you fast. Vaccines will protect well against the worse outcomes of infection, changing the character of this surge, but less than 50% are fully vaccinated in FLpic.twitter.com/yuO6I957vz

Are they seeing a similar reduction in the hospitalizations and deaths to the UK? Presumably those 50% are mostly older people so at least the serious disease toll is reduced?

Miami Dade is 59% pop fully vaccinated. 71% >18. Hospitalizations up 56% in a week. 110% in 2 weeks. Hospitals starting to put restrictions on patient visits @JacksonHealth as there is such a rapid increase.https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/us/miami-dade-florida-covid-cases.html …

We don't have anything like the UK'S complete coverage of their vulnerable. The difference between say 98 percent of over 65 and 88 percent is five times as many vulnerable people.

Don’t think data in yet. As you can see it’s been quite recent. I would imagine that would be the case, although there are some places where older folks are much less vaccinated than ideal

Should have said *fully* in: obvs as folks closer to FL have pointed out things are ticking up.

UK has far higher and more consistent coverage of older people vaccinated. There will likely be some reduction but not to the same degree. Hospitalizations are already up a lothttps://miami.cbslocal.com/2021/07/20/covid-south-florida-hospitalizations/ …

Yes it’s trending poorly. In many areas people are not so much resistant to vaccines as cut off from opportunity to get vaccinated. Of course plenty of deniers as well.

I'd really like to see data on how my local hospitals are doing. Don't get that anymore. Our local health departments don't either.

It's going to be much worse than the UK I would expect -- several x higher % of unvaccinated older population! I would fear for younger groups too which have made up the majority of UK admissions recently but maybe more prior infection protection?

Do they have more healthcare provision? ICU beds per capita for eg?
