Unfortunately I mean the opposite. I mean people who are not the wonderful ones. But yeah - what's the incentive to chase them down - especially if they are simply careerists whose work doesn't impact the real world. You just hope other good work eventually drowns out the noise.

Many conscientious, meticulous people would be happy to take a low-profile job like science data verifier for a reasonable salary and job security, I suspect. Could someone start a fund for such jobs?

I like this. We could all pitch in those amounts of $37 that sit in our research accounts for years because the Uni doesn't let us spend it on non-project related items but the project finished in 2012.
