The first purpose of a clinical trial is not to identify treatments that work, or to establish how well they work. It's to efficiently identify treatments that are very unlikely to work, even under "ideal" circumstances for their use.

That's the first purpose of *publishing* your trial in an academic journal (which is completely unnecessary in regulated trials of medicines for the goals that are patient/society driven).
