To put it another way, what about RCTs makes them less suitable than uncontrolled trials for this topic? In most cases, the answer is that RCTs should be better as long as they are conducted well

That being said, RCTs are not always possible for a variety of reasons. But if they clearly ARE, say because we're trialing a drug for an infectious disease, then you have to wonder why someone would say that they aren't the best evidence

Why? To get rid of confounding factors (through random assignment). Can't a non-RCT study who takes take to clarify all appropriate confounding factors "by hand" be as good as a RCT?
