Worth remembering that the association between video games/TV and ill health is pretty inconsistent so imo there's no strong rationale for worrying about a few months with extra screen time during a pandemichttps://twitter.com/mrbenjaminlaw/status/1414039833157066752 …

Sydney parents, guardians and carers: As a kid who was raised on heaps of TV and video games – and turned out to be a relatively okay grown-up (who works in television!) – I'm just going to put it out there: it's okay to lower your standards.

It’s more the amount of time spent sitting without moving isn’t it?

Yes this would be the problem. Babies need freedom to move their bodies so if they’re constantly locked into strollers/high chairs/swings (bc it’s convenient not having to watch them closely) will already be less physical. My 3y/o plays while watching, unless he’s very tired

Yeah, all screen time rules completely out the window at the moment. Still interesting dinner time discussions. This morning, over breakfast, “When did humans start recording temperature information?” #thekidsarealright

I worry about this constantly. I was raised on TV, but it was from when I was like 7, not 3 or 4. And there were times when kids shows were on and times when there weren't. Now kids shows are always on demand. Is it still ok?! Am I fucking my child's brain up forever?

Allowing kids the freedom to choose what they do and how they spend there time is an important step in growing up. Unless there is a really good reason to say no I almost always turn on whatever my kid asks to watch. He self manages his play time quite well for a 3y/o

This is something I struggled with. I give 4 1 hr of iPad in the morning while I drink my coffee and try to keep it at that for the day, but we’re in lockdown and sometimes I just need a break later in the day! I basically take solace in the fact that he only gets PBS kids

BUT…I’m quite certain that a game on PBS kids is one of the reasons he can now read 🤷‍♀️

Went through lockdown in Dubai last year with a friend who had to learn to work from 🏠 and her 5 year old. 5yo & I gamed in timed bursts as an incentive to learn phonemes & then tricky words that we printed on cards. She did ok.
