This is so very silly - "lockdown" is NOT A PUBLIC HEALTH TERM It is: - non-specific - opaque - unnecessarily emotive https://twitter.com/CaseyBriggs/status/1408362026523529222 …

I am particularly fond of what we had over here (tri-state area) - “Shelter in place” orders. It’s correct, but there’s something calming - and caring - about it as well

It's mainly the media people in Melbourne are angry with.

But the media is definitely calling it a lockdown

The fact that there _is_ no proper terminology is the problem. How quickly did everyone adopted the new variant naming criteria? It is necessary. Without appropriate country wide, clearly defined terms, people are going to be uncertain and upset.

Google ngram for lockdown vs stay at home. Sadly no data for sparkling isolation.

You’re a health nerd by your own admission and the general population in Sydney will be totally
% confused by the “soft” messaging.
Strong messaging, leadership & guidance are imperative to any mitigation measures; go hand in hand. It’s how we have got in a mess on vaccines.Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I can see both sides "lockdown" is much more emotive than "stay at home orders" which is more instructive. Both mean restriction so I can see how the delivery of the health message is important. The lived experience for most under these orders may feel like a lockdown though.
