Agree…clear signal of a rare but serious complication in an age group who has little to fear from SARSCOV2 My gosh … if this were not so polarized it would be a classic case for shared decision making. That this vaccine could be *mandated* by schools (now) boggles my mind.https://twitter.com/DavidJuurlink/status/1407749646244626433 …

The risk of death for a 10yo from a COVID-19 infection is somewhere between 1 in 50-100k. The risk of hospitalization roughly 10x that, so 1 in 5-10k. This appears to be a rate of 1 hospitalization per ~50k, and death rate lower than 1 per 500k at the same age

Now, obviously those risks aren't precisely comparable, because somewhere around 30% of kids in the US have had COVID-19 already and the 1-year risk of getting an infection is no longer quite so high Still, not sure what you mean by "boggles the mind"

I would agree with this assessment. However, do you think it's possible that immunisation with a different vaccine (Novavax, JnJ?) for the second dose could still confer comparable protection and minimise risk in these subgroups?

Death rate seems 0 to me. Know something I don’t?

Maybe using rule of three to estimate an upper bound on an outcome that isn't observed in a sample?

So roughly myocaridits is less likely than hospitalization with covid but more likely than death right?

to clarify: is the 1 in 50-100k risk of death from COVID for all 10-year-olds? Or is that the risk for 10-year-olds who actually get COVID?

In Israel it was observed to be 1 in 5000 vaccinated males in the 15-30 age group. Would that change your practical recommendations for that age group?
