The vast outrage over the "unfairness" of a transgender athlete competing at the Olympics makes very little sense when you consider that; a) she is ranked 4th b) she is the first trans athlete to compete at the Olympics EVER

Indeed. The misogyny is palpable. The whole unfair argument hinged on either hate or the prejudice that men are "better" than women.
-
Most of the people with concerns are women - it is women losing their places in sorts teams. Most of those saying it’s not a problem are men. And it’s those with concerns exhibiting misogyny

If people knew how *hard* it is to go through the process, they wouldn't begrudge them anything. It's not like they're just changing outfits

Assumption? It's weightlifting we're talking about here. The record books lay out pretty clearly what a massive advantage one has over another

The assumptions in this tweet about the assumptions don’t hold up to reality. Look at this specific case, in this specific sport (are men better at weightlifting?). The accusation of widespread assumptions of a ‘lying’ component to trans athletes isn’t worth responding to.
-
If everyone was arguing this kicks off a slippery slope, the athlete in question hadn’t already demonstrated high performance in male competition, or the sport was shooting, your arguments would make sense. But they’re not, she has, and it’s not. Just wasn’t a thought-out take.

There are a few problems with this. The current world standard record for the 87kg class is 294 and thus unset after weight class rescheduling. Hubbard lifted 300kg at 20 years. She is 43, thus FAR from a prime athlete. A transathlete in his prime WILL take the world record.

The current world record for the 81kg men's class is 378kg and held by Liu Xiaojun. 89kg is unset at 387. The up the 96kg men's class is set at 416 total. Li Wenwen holds the women's absolute world record at 335. 335. 335!
