"Why do all these left wing people get into public health" is really confusing correlation with causation tbh

Thoughts? When I interviewed her she was the furthest thing from a scientist pushing a line or self promoting. She was careful and caveated with strictly no soundbites.

Horrifying misbehaviour by senior academics. I agree, her work was sound and while I haven't seen her speak in person I've heard she is excellent. That her detractors face no penalty whatsoever for their behaviour is not surprising, but it is depressing

You can replicate her findings with almost any dataset that has BMI and death data (I've done it myself). That we now have some explanation of the obesity paradox doesn't legitimise the gross way in which the question was addressed for over a decade

I talked to an academic who said similar things about the response to research that suggested low levels of alcohol consumption was good for you.

Very silly stuff imo. Attacking findings you dislike doesn't make them go away, and in both of those cases there are actually now decent explanations that don't include absurd accusations of misconduct
