With outbreaks recurring in Australia, it's worth thinking about what might be different if 70-80% of the population was vaccinated How would our response change? How SHOULD our response change?

FWIW - I think even in a context where variants are increasingly worrisome, once 70-80% of the country has been vaccinated (incl most adults >30yo) having this sort of massive govt response makes little sense

Well given it will have dropped R0 substantially (but not below 1), you would think TTI would be able to cope much more often. Speed is the limitation of TTI, and with C19 spreading more slowly (narrowly?) it gives TTI a much better chance of catching up.

Requires cooperation from those being tested. And it’s quite possible that those unvaccinated will overlap with those who don’t come forward for testing. And for the vaccinated the lower sense of personal risk might also reduce testing numbers.

We also have lower VE for delta, so single dose VE ~ 30%; 2 dose mRNA ~ 88%. If we redo the math, we now need 90% uptake with (completed) mRNA vaccine for herd immunity. Per @VoiceOfFranky Canadians are enthusiastic about vaccination; > 80% of us are vaccinated or plan to be.
