With outbreaks recurring in Australia, it's worth thinking about what might be different if 70-80% of the population was vaccinated How would our response change? How SHOULD our response change?

FWIW - I think even in a context where variants are increasingly worrisome, once 70-80% of the country has been vaccinated (incl most adults >30yo) having this sort of massive govt response makes little sense

It would depend on whether it was an outbreak of a variant that was challenging the vaccine or not.

After it’s been widely available to the general population for a couple of months, it’s your own problem if you reject it and get infected. Overall level of vaccination irrelevant. Except for children ineligible, precautions need to remain for them.

It can also become a problem for a hospital too, and for the doctors and staff who work there, and for those who can’t now get admitted to the ICU bed that is being used. So should measures still protect these things or is it better that measures be taken to enforce vaccination?

This is the question I have had since Feb 2020, how does a virus become endemic vs transitory? The Flu strain of 1918 last, I believe until 2022/23. Then if has gone. Is that feasible, if not, why not?

Seems a question that's dividing experts too. To let the virus circulate once majority vaccinated, or to continue to aim for elimination of transmission.

I think it should not depend on "the majority" but rather "did everyone have a chance to get vaccinated". IMO at this point the biggest issue are children where no approved vaccine is available.

I think once *everyone* had the chance to get vaccinated general strict NPIs cannot be really justified anymore. I think at this point targeted NPIs (like TTI) are enough.

Wont this, much like how Australia has already reacted, be decided by what happens overseas? As in with what the countries with 70-80% vaccination look like when they drop (or don't drop) restrictions
