Well we all know the headlines go for sensationalism. It’s the same as smoking. Risk increases but not everyone who smokes will get lung cancer yet we know the link is a causal one….

Sure, but smoking causes a huge proportion of lung cancer - even in a worst-case scenario the evidence seems to show that only a pretty tiny % of bowel cancer is caused by red meat (and much of that is probably processed red meat as well)

The problem is you’re coming at it as an epidemiologist. I’m coming at it as a clinician with a background in academic pathology. It’s equally important but like with smoking a while back that causal link is being established. There will always be cases that aren’t related eg -

Lungs cancers in non smokers. And indeed smokers who don’t get cancer. This is a whole picture thing. As much as stats are my thing these days - they aren’t the whole picture.
