“We should encourage a program where pharmacists chat to customers about options to use long-acting contraceptives!” Uh huh. Thank you but I’ll take my trip to a chemist without the lecture

I feel the same way, but that is an illusion, because we are part of the elite. It is sometimes easy to forget that not everyone is an academic and most academics have no background in the life sciences.

It's not a simple either/or. Some patients rely on the pharmacists as much as they rely on their GP's. Some don't. I have literally seen a pharmacist save a person's life when the GP f*cked up the dosages. Best to read the (copious) research that this idea is based on I reckon.

Its taken me years to find a pharmacist who I can trust and talk to about everything who gives accurate, personalised advice. He’s a young stand alone operator and I’m so grateful to have him.

Pharmacists here are pretty good. "Have you taken this (medication or dose) before?" Yes: "Any questions? No? Have a nice day." No: "Do you have any questions? Would you like to discuss it further? I've included the monograph in the bag."
