The interesting thing to me is the divergence between the two lab leak theories: 1. Reasonably low likelihood that requires investigation 2. Wild conspiracyhttps://twitter.com/amymaxmen/status/1403756216497500165 …

Always keep an open mind. It's happened before.https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sverdlovsk_anthrax_leak …

Likely a bit of both. Have to account for CCP's need to 'save face' politically. Record removal and lying to investigators is likely. Still two theories are competing and neither is proven: 1. Zoonosis - no intermediary species yet 2. Lab leak - no contact trace data yet

Re: "And much of the argument for a lab leak really does resemble a conspiracy theory" I've been saying this for over a year. It doesn't just resemble a conspiracy theory; it is one. It's like HIV conspiracism all over again. https://twitter.com/AtomsksSanakan/status/1390756369091936264 …pic.twitter.com/slGmlwlJI0

The 2nd scenario allows covid denialists an opportunity to pivot out of the increasingly untenable "harmless-just-like-flu" position.
