Anyway, I'm still skeptical about vitamin D but the point here is that if someone asks you "can vitamin D help with COVID-19" the only correct answer is a GIANT SHRUG and that is a heinous situation at this point in the pandemic

Get rid of the nonsensical incentive to "publish as many papers as possible" and whatever problem with this disappears. The point of academia certainly is not to triple check ideas with large, expensive RCTs before overcoming the fear of being wrong.
