Herd immunity itself is to a great extent just a boring mathematical fact, the problem was people calling for pursuit of this maths through the infection of a large part of the population

Like...how do all these people think herd immunity is most quickly and safely achieved?

“A mandated death figure” Are you sure that’s in the text? You can argue they’re wrong, but not that they were comfortable with mandated deaths. They may be wrong to believe less deaths would arise from their policy choices, but I think that’s their belief
-
Mandated deaths are inevitable if you are after herd immunity via natural infection. That's just simple math. They just believe that *they* won't die (chances are low after all). And don't care about others.

Seems like an equivocation between “herd immunity” and “naturally acquired herd immunity”

You cannot guarantee herd immunity with an ever changing virus. Where does that leave us?
