I'm fairly happy to short the "actually, lockdowns were good for people's mental health!" position as better evidence comes out over the next several years.https://twitter.com/GidMK/status/1396074337090691079 …

Here is the data for Las Vegas after my

Precisely. The narrative has been generally evidence free and driven by moral panic.

Re: "Suicide =/= mental health. I'd recommend reading some of
@tylerblack32 threads if you're interested in the topic rather than tedious straw men" Haven't you explained this for months now? https://twitter.com/GidMK/status/1320962745466978304 …pic.twitter.com/dVjPeicqar

Yes, but I don't assume that Nate reads mine or indeed any other evidence on suicides or mental health

I'd recommend reading some authoritative works on the topic, e.g.
@TheLancet seminar. "Aside from past suicide attempts, psychopathology is the most important predictor of suicide and strongly associates with other forms of suicidal behaviour." https://www.sigg.it/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/AIP-suicide-behavior-16-Lancet-SIGG.pdf … -
Hint: there is no good predictor for suicidal behaviour, all have a net positive predictive value below 1%.

And in general that a scientist/researcher would recommend reading "threads" to get up-to-date on such an extensive and complex topic is not even excused by COVID fast-food consumption of literature.

He recommended reading published tweets by one expert. Most scientists/researchers would not have a problem with that. I would do the same for people I know to be unfamiliar with the field. Perhaps your issue is that you don't agree with his position?

If you think you're being straw-manned, you should be more precise about what you're saying. In various tweets in your thread, you're both suggesting that lockdowns decrease suicides and that there's no relationship between them. The former is a much more ambitious claim.
