This is really nice. So many paths into this world. Interesting tidbit - many of the worlds top academic focused infectious disease epidemiologists did not actually do their formal PhD work in epidemiology!

You forgot the actual epidemiology masters degrees. I tend to find they are a good balance between PhD and MPH. More complex stuff covered than an MPH but not as time greedy as a PhD. However I am an anomaly with a non clinical background Epi masters and PhD in Epi and ethics.
