This is painfully true. Saying "it will be fine" about any COVID-19 issue gives you instant credulous media coverage, and even when it is decidedly not fine the chances that anyone will come back and ask you hard questions is close to 0%https://twitter.com/whippletom/status/1394583068619513856 …

Throughout the pandemic, as a commentator the easiest thing to do has been to say "it will be fine". Most of the time it is - decisions have to be made when uncertain, knowing there's an asymmetry of risk for getting it wrong.

Did any of these broadcasters call them out after they were so wrong about school reopenings?

nope not even when one said just after schools opened words to the effect of "we're already seeing [a fourth wave] emerge" before cases continued to fall for 2 months

And back in January when they claimed that the lockdown wasn’t strict enough to bring R below one, nobody baited an eyelid. You had people on question time complaining that people weren’t taking the LD seriously because they were going to the supermarket!

people like Heneghan, Sikora and Gupta have basically become personas non grata but those who predicted that school reopenings would be a disaster are still on the telly every other day!

All three of those people have been quoted in major international several times in the last month. They've all been on TV as well

Not as much as the other side of the debate. Not even close. And their viewpoints have been challenged and scorned far more.
