Always worth noting that scientifically there is no evidence that banning abortions decreases the abortion rate It only decreases the SAFE abortion ratehttps://twitter.com/DrJenGunter/status/1394316185781501959 …

What about mandating vaccines? Does that increase or decrease their uptake?

Decreases it. We have seen that already.

Nope, quite the opposite. Many examples of this, here's one from Australia a few years back https://www.ncirs.org.au/no-jab-no-pay-raises-catch-vaccination-rates#:~:text=Of%20407%2C332%20incompletely%20vaccinated%20adolescents,from%2086.6%25%20to%2089.0%25 ….

That is for pretty established vaccines and that is an entirely different condition. We will know under this circumstances how it goes in a few years.

I suspect it's quite unlikely that mandates will reduce the rate of vaccination. The proportion of people who are steadfastly against vaccines tends to be much smaller than those who are on the fence and can be persuaded (this is based on a great deal of evidence)

Whether or not you have a position on the use of mandates to increase vaccination rates ethically, scientifically speaking it's unlikely that such mandates will on the whole decrease the rates

But you said it increases the uptake, not "unlikely to decrease":https://twitter.com/GidMK/status/1394469920927145985 …

In general, yes. The best evidence shows that mandates increase the uptake of vaccines in most contexts. It's not impossible that the opposite will happen for COVID-19 vaccines, but it is very unlikely

Fair enough. Getting back to the original premise: your stance is that state banning of abortion has ill-intended consequences, but that state mandated vaccination has positive consequences. If I'm getting your stance wrong, you can correct me.

Not quite. The banning of abortions is ineffective, and there is some evidence it's harmful, but the evidence for harm is less solid than the evidence for inefficacy. It's a hugely different issue to vaccines in innumerable ways
