Gotta say, as someone who did an entire Masters degree online because I was working full time, I find the handwaving about how terrible online classes are to be weird and tedioushttps://twitter.com/bopinion/status/1393572930257362946 …

I get that people have missed the campus experience, and I also understand that this is a very different thing for people in the United States compared to where I went to university

That being said, the idea that the ~teaching~ that universities provided was valueless because it was online is weird to me as someone who benefitted greatly from an entirely online course

A careful study of a large stats class shows that students do at least as well purely online as they do with in-class+ online. Yes, student differences (ACT, HSGPA,...) were carefully adjusted for.https://arxiv.org/abs/2101.06755

I would have loved the opportunity to do some classes online. Obviously not great for practicals but not having to get up and travel for an hour for a 9 am lecture would be great. And some of the online courses I have done since gave been fantastic.

Yep, sometimes I wonder if I'd have done better during my undergraduate degree if it had been available online and I didn't have to travel as much

I did virtually my whole PhD remotely and it was great. I had regular Skype calls with my supervisor which were focused and useful. I oped for a UK school, so formal classes were not a requirement to get through the program.

Yep! After my fantastic experience with my MPH, I now do almost all of my PhD remotely and it's really fantastic for my learning and progress

I teach in an online program. The format lets us train midwives and NPs as they continue working as nurses, raising families, & providing care in rural and underserved areas. I used to teach in a F2F program, and I think the didactic learning opportunities are comparable.

But the online format is better for growing a workforce that’s currently too small and maldistributed, and for making learning accessible. Quality of learning in either setting is highly dependent on student engagement- including ability to be engaged, given # plates spinning.
