That's among the reasons why I left academia immediately after graduation. I couldn't stand it. The double standards, the backstabbing, the fiefdoms, the egos, everywhere you look it's dirty.

There is indeed a great deal of disgusting behaviour in academia. Often, it happens behind closed doors, but sometimes as in this case it is out in the open. If you don't like it, why are you supporting it

I am not supporting it. What I am saying is that it is expected. You said: "You dont like the paper". No, I believe it is borderline misconduct. If you craft a hit-piece, you are on your own, no support from me. That some editor accepted it to CHI 2021 is disgusting me even more.

That is a line I don't cross. Under those conditions (at least for me) you have surrendered your scientific immunity.

You are not a scientist to me anymore. You cannot attack the scientific quality of someone that is no longer a scientist. I don't support the attack in the same way I won't do it, but on the other hand, I will never make a big deal of it anyways.

That's clearly not even a vaguely scientific position to take, but at least I understand your position

My position I hope is very clear. This ain't about supporting something, this is about NOT defending it. Which I wont do, as I said. You are on your own.

I am not defending THEM. The paper is BAD, and I have critique it in fairness. You are defending the PhD student, I am not going to.

I don't even need to defend THEM to say that this behaviour is atrocious and unscientific
