The only real question is whether we should be vaccinating children *right now*, and the answer is slightly more complex than you might've heard

Thank you for the write up! We actually have a bioethics precedent. Rubella is usually spread by children with almost no death or disability. However pregnant woman who acquire rubella can have a fetus affected with severe birth defects. 1/n

Early on it was discovered that the best way to prevent that was by vaccinating the would-be-siblings who are carriers and the source of infection. Now congenital Rubella is all but eradicated. 2/n.

Is it still a yes if we have reached herd immunity by vaccinating adults (and perhaps teens)?

Overall yes but only after the vulnerable around the world have been vaccinated.

Is it appropriate to use aggregate risk for all children wrt either Covid or vaccine side-effects? I.e. if severe cases from either are biased by particular characteristics or underlying conditions?

Where's the source for "higher than the risks from regular seasonal influenza"? Fact checkers looked at this when some politicians were claiming last year that this is not true and the general conclusion was that it is indeed not true.

re "unless they’re vaccinated the risk will start to approach 100%", are there no unvaccinated people who make it to adulthood without being infected by something endemic (due to herd immunity)? If herd immunity is not achievable why the call for vaxxing kids to get there?
-
Also, the idea one can be protected for 10 to 20 years from a single jab is without evidence. More likely a kid would need another shot at least annually (like the flu). To argue for 1:1 u have to at a minimum presume vax provides at least the same immunity as natural infection
