I think the line above is a good one though re international borders. Its been a huge key IMO. Lockdowns did play some roll I think but only once it started getting out of control because some thing slipped.

There wasn't any "lower initial seeding" in the beginning. I travelled from Aus to the UK last Feb for a holiday so I was watching rates between the two countries closely and they were very similar. Aus chose elimination & closed its borders. UK didn't. That's the big difference.

In one July week Melbourne had as many COVID-19 cases as the UK, and it was virus season (winter) in Melbourne. We locked down. They opened up. We eradicated it. They got a huge wave.

Yep they locked down when they got to 23,000 cases per day.
