I’ve been thinking about this piece. I was an editor at BMJ for many years & have huge respect for the journal & its superb editors. I understand why BMJ published it: a VERY provocative piece that is getting huge attention. But I think it should have been a “for & against” 1/3https://twitter.com/GidMK/status/1391210039013117961 …

Dunno, I reckon publishing an unreferenced, evidence-free (literally, nothing is cited) blog is not a great look

One citation: the antivax trope of bringing up GBS cases from the 1976 flu vaccine 🙄

As a GBS survivor (and a victim of swine flu) I avoid the flu shot but it is the only vaccine I do.

I hear you. I worry that this is BMJ’s “Wakefield” moment. I hope I am wrong. A for and against debate would have been better IMHO.

BMJ has not just been publishing problematic stuff from Dr. Peter Doshi, they made him an editor.

You don't need citations when your argument is that we don't know absolutely everything so we can't do anything 🧠 ... well, anything except preventing parents from making their own decisions.

The “we can’t know for sure” gambit is the same sewing doubt they use for all anything requiring any sort of model or projection. It is a dishonest approach because that is what these people are.

I'm just a semi-knowledgeable non-expert bystander, and even my nerves twitch when I see Vinay Prasad's name on an article. Did BMJ not see the pattern of his COVID discourse over the last 14 months?

It’s a troubling, evidence-free piece, written without the input of experts, by at least one author who has written a lot of questionable stuff this pandemic. Click-bait for sure. But the BMJ shouldn’t be click-bait.

It's on BMJ blogs. Also I am troubled by the implications of what you are saying. Do you propose a black list with author names that have written "questionable" stuff and hence should not be barred from publication?
