The weirdest thing about the whole herd immunity through natural infection argument is that it's never happened ever for any disease long-term so it was always a wild idea for COVID-19

I’d like to agree, but the far right libertarian GBD fans wouldn’t mind that.

How do we know there weren’t earlier waves of Sarscov2 that conferred some temporary population immunity in some regions?
-
More interesting question is whether there is any evidence of earlier waves of SARS-CoV-2

We have herd immunity against the common cold caused by OC43 virus right? Its been dated to the 1889-90 pandemic that had 3 waves (including a second wave double severe as the first/third)

Don't viruses as they switch hosts at first become more virulent as they adapt....more able to transmit & possibly more deadly. Isn't it more like a wave form than a straight line if a virus does eventually become less problematic.

I'm wondering why nobody suggests playing "herd immunity" with Mers so it becomes less virulent . Is it just a tolerance for death thing....my tolerance is low. I don't like playing it with CoVid19 unless it with vaccines.
