Interesting point - 0.008% is, all things being equal, a LOWER rate of infections in vaccinated people than I'd expecthttps://twitter.com/CT_Bergstrom/status/1382836149098483715 …

This is one of the most egregious examples of a terrible headline I've seen. The story itself says 0.008% but the headline describes this as "less than 1%". True, but it blatantly violating Grice's maxim of quantity, thereby implying an infection rate not so far below 1%. pic.twitter.com/XtSpgBFCQ0

In the US, the exact incidence of COVID-19 infections per week is hard to estimate, but it's probably been about 10% of the whole country infected since January (roughly), for a weekly incidence of ~0.5%

The vaccines used in the US are 80-95% effective, and about 100 million people have been vaccinated in that time period

Given the incidence of COVID-19 in that time, even assuming the highest level of protection of 95%, you'd still expect to see 0.05% of vaccinated people getting COVID-19 each week (again, all things being equal)

This relies on many assumptions, most of which are clearly wrong (for one thing, vaccine inequity is rife, they are often given to people in areas with fewer infections first) but it still gives you an idea of how well the vaccines are holding up so far

In Oregon over 80 were 4.1 percent of cases 7 days ending January 25th. Today over 80 is 1.55 percent of cases. 4.8 percent of cases at one point in November. OHA reports over 80 vaccinated increased from 65 percent March 17 to 75 percent April 15th.

Oregon 168 positive cases from 700,000 vaccinated, Washington 217 cases among 1.7 million. Oregon vaccinated health care etc first. 45 percent of Oregon first 900,000 were for under 60. Younger case rates higher per capita may explain Oregon higher vaccinated break through rate
