I think an interesting question now becomes - what happens when similarly rare events are found for other vaccines? It's not unlikely, and thus far the reaction of regulators and the public has been mixedhttps://twitter.com/GidMK/status/1382073023046459395 …

I'm still trying to figure out if we're talking about 'risk' correctly here, distinguishing between individual and population risk? Individual risk being an oxymoron?https://thoughtscapism.com/2018/04/04/risk-in-perspective-population-risk-does-not-equal-individual-risk/ …

Given that Moderna and Pfizer have been administered since December to a big-enough cohort, wouldn’t serious side effects have appeared by now?
-
Maybe, but given the limitations of the systems involved it's not impossible or even necessarily unlikely that we'd miss something. It's actually something of a miracle that we identified this blood clotting disorder so quickly

I guess as more supply of other vaccines become available we'll have to screen people for which vaccine would suit them best.

Well-known side effect of polio vaccine is death. Yes it's rare, but it's not that nobody wasn't tracking side effects.

We pause, look at the data, figure out ways to treat the problem and how to prevent it. Vaccines have to be monitored really closely and transparently.
