One thing I haven't really mentioned in this whole debacle is that, while Prof Ioannidis felt comfortable attacking myself and my co-authors personally, he hasn't actually responded to any elements of my scientific critiquehttps://twitter.com/GidMK/status/1376304539897237508 …

Recently, Professor John Ioannidis, most famous for his meta-science and more recently COVID-19 work, published this article in the European Journal of Clinical Investigation It included, among other things, a lengthy personal attack on me Some thoughts 1/n pic.twitter.com/JGfUrpJXh2

I commented on inclusion criteria here. In my opinion the issue is not so simple as @AtomsksSanakan and you represent it. I'm interested to hear your comments!https://twitter.com/AleksiRaudasoja/status/1376458117819604992?s=20 …

1/x Ad hominems in Ioannidis's paper got me to take deeper dive into issues raised about his papers. Ad hominems always get me thinking that person writing it is too emotional --> too biased to write anything about the issue. This might be overreaction. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/eci.13554 …

I think there's some reasonable points there, although I'd disagree somewhat as well. I think part of the issue is that the biases we're dealing with are hard to predict and very uncertain themselves

So for example, blood donors. In some places, donating blood was the only way to access a serology test in April/May 2020. Hard to discount or correct for that kind of bias

Non-response bias is of course an issue, but it's also not unique to random samples. The difference is that we can have some assurance that at least the random sample is reasonably representative of the population

this is not the same as randomization in intervention trials. here it is easy to have still selection bias if response rate is low. You dont think there is tresshold where study with larger population(->representativeness) is better?
