(Yes, this is also due to the lockdown and other measures, and yes the UK hasn't ~quite~ hit the threshold to completely eliminate the risk of COVID-19 through vaccination, but still...amazing achievement)

This is the right graph to see as I lie awake with body aches after getting the J&J vaccine today (this is primarily an excuse to say woo I got the vaccine!)

Because it was never about herd immunity, it was about eugenics.

"Wait NO WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'RE NOT LETTING YOUNG PEOPLE LIE IN BED WITH EXCRUCIATING SYMPTOMS"

The UK is still trying to do that. Young people aren't vaccinated yet and schools are open.

Dealing with the same thing in Israel. Main SAEs being reported from the vaccine so far are to the antivaxxers' narrative, but I expect they'll recover pretty quickly.pic.twitter.com/9jK6qkAsM9

Bored saying this but here Portugal (moderate vaccine coverage), UK (high) and Israel (very high). If vaccine was the only factor we would be forced to conclude that, if anything, vaccine increased Covid deaths. Since this is not the case these arguments are unhelpful:pic.twitter.com/yN0WIb0DNA

I’m from the UK and from my understanding it is mostly our lengthy and fairly strict lockdown that has brought cases down but there is also a clear vaccination effect. Natural immunity levels are also important. Has Portugal had a hard lockdown? How high are the antibody levels?
