An extra 30,000 people died aged 15-44 in the US from non-covid causes in 2020. These are lockdown deaths They have 40-70 years of life left compared to maybe 2-3 for an avg covid death. They are 20x as valuable or more than the tot of all covid deaths https://twitter.com/GidMK/status/1380367085352591362 …pic.twitter.com/Ge6A971SxS

Well a) most of those deaths were at times when the US was largely not locked down and b) the most likely explanation is excess mortality due to COVID-19

If you look at the excess deaths state by state, you notice they often came in peaks. Lockdown deaths would be more spread out.https://twitter.com/tbuytaer/status/1359874217009946625?s=19 …

I made a new plot of the #COVID19 #mortality in the #UnitedStates First plot is of the United States, other plot for the states and territories separately. Scale for the different plots differs because states differ in population size. Recent weeks are not always complete. pic.twitter.com/mh1KyWs5tz

My plots were for all ages combined. Might be useful to make similar plots per state for specific ages to see if those also were in peaks.

That's a huge assumption and I would honestly be shocked if it was mostly COVID int his age group considering the mortality risk in younger ppl. Opiod deaths may have spiked 50% in 2020 as well, so I would not be surprised if that was contributing along with COVID

It would be interesting to check if there's a correlation between the increase in opioid deaths and lockdowns in US states. Arizona saw a huge increase in opioid deaths, with a soft (not enforced) stay at home order that only lasted 1.5 months in April-May 2020.

Peer review on Twitter: @GidMK concludes these are Covid excess deaths by assumption, thereby ignoring that the unemployment rate soared in 2020 due to lockdowns and a higher unemployment has been shown to increase suicide rates (https://jech.bmj.com/content/57/8/557 …).

If that were the case, why would the deaths be inversely related to infections? You really need to decide if you're going to be a scientist or a political hack. You can't be both.
