It also asks why you wanted to calculate a world average when the numbers are so unreliable.

That came through on Translate, which is odd because I actually didn't calculate a world average that was just how Prof Ioannidis mischaracterized our paper

We systematically reviewed estimates of the IFR of COVID-19 and our meta-analysis estimated a value of 0.68%, but that isn't what a "global" IFR is and we were very clear that IFR varies by location

I haven't read any of the articles it references, but that seems to be reported inaccurately then.

They took that from Prof Ioannidis' article, which (in my opinion) mischaracterized our research. The paper is about a "global" IFR, I'm not convinced you can reasonably estimate one at all

It mentions that you believe it cannot be estimated properly, and it says it's a mystery that you do it yourself, anyway, because of that. But from what you've told me, that last part is false then.

@nikikorteweg@NRC Perhaps you could clarify what you used as your source for this statement?2 replies 0 retweets 1 like -
It is indeed 'a weekly column about fuzz and fitties in science', like
@mus_nico concluded, about the unusual ad hominem attack, not the IFR per se. I made clear that both gentlemen know that it is not quite possible to accurately estimate global IFR.2 replies 0 retweets 3 likes
