Why expect a huge increase in the suicide rate NOW? It's like expecting a decrease in Covid-19 mortality the days after lockdown, or expecting a huge increase in cancer deaths a few years after a nuclear event.

Why's the flu death number so high - all reports are its a record low.

Most influenza deaths are not directly counted / tested for. The number of flu deaths is estimated using a formula that uses pneumonia, since that’s a common effect of the flu. That’s why they are grouped.

While I’m happy the rates are not up, I hope this data isn’t used as an excuse not to increase mental health funding. Suicide rates after the Fukushima disaster increased after 3-4 years
