Wrote this thread last week before everything, no idea how prescient it would be! The lack of response from those who were so incredibly vocal about "silencing" just last week has spoken volumes, I thinkhttps://twitter.com/GidMK/status/1375258501992214533 …

I've been thinking a bit about why I'm so unimpressed by the arguments about how terrible "academic silencing" is, and I've got some thoughts 1/n

Not to say that I haven't been supported - people have been truly wonderful But none of them were the people who say they care deeply about this stuff 🤷‍♂️

Yes, it is very noticeable how those preaching free speech and even calling for more civility in scientific discourse have been silent on this one.

Yep. @JeanneLenzer1 and @ShannonBrownlee especially come to mind on this score after their articles complaining about how horribly poor, poor Prof. Ioannidis was supposedly treated, for example... https://twitter.com/JeanneLenzer1/status/1333452393325998081 …

Quite frankly, their silence, along with that of Vinay Prasad, has been deafening.

Technically, I don't think Vinay has been "silent". He tweeted the article itself, RT someone praising it, and has RT/liked a number of personal attacks on me

Correction noted. Vinay blocked me a long time ago, and I haven’t checked his feed from my lurker account in a couple of days at least.

I think this partly explains the thing(it should not). The discussion has became like a one sort of identity politics. Often too big risk to speak out if you disagree. One example of it is this: judging people by to whom they can be associated with rather than their arguments.
