Wow - this professor at @IHU_Marseille (who blocked me) is now telling his followers that I have blackmailed his institute. That is a serious accusation, tweeps.

I believe that's the same guy who insulted myself and co-authors when we published a critique of work by Ioannidis and Bhattacharya. The insults were, from memory, very French (something about tin feet)
Here we go. He's also been extremely gross to @lonnibesancon on numerous occasionspic.twitter.com/bg8llFBtJL
Scattergun insults (his speciality) are not quite in the same class as actionable libel (IANAL), though, are they? Love the conflation of Lonni and Ioannidis. Confusion reigns.
We have terribly broad defamation laws in Australia, this would absolutely be actionable here
Interestingly, defamation in the Netherlands is a criminal offence. You can do jail time.
That is interesting! In Australia it is not criminal but the laws are incredibly broad and somewhat backwards. There are legal defenses against a defamation claim, but it's expensive to even get to the point where you can defend the claim
That's always the problem, and the risk of losing is never zero.
Yes, and in Australia determining that there has been a defamatory comment is relatively easy and comes first. So essentially it's pretty quick to get the claim into court, and then people are forced to spend vast sums defending it
