Everyone's worried about COVID-19 vaccines, Astrazeneca, and blood clots
So I wrote about how it all works and what the risks really are (hint: not as scary as you might think) ping @MackayIM @TheSciBabe @picardonhealthhttps://gidmk.medium.com/covid-19-vaccines-and-blood-clots-f36e3932ef80 …

As I mentioned before, I don't think it is correct to compare risk of CVT after vaccination (of it turns out to be a true relationship) with that of COVID-19 death. The reason is that we have different vaccines so not using AZ will only delay vaccination by a few months.

Replying to @MikeDeeeeeee @MackayIM and
I'm not sure I agree - given the current incidence of COVID-19 in most of these countries a 3+ month delay carries with it a not inconsiderable risk of getting the disease. Not 100%, but even 10% the ratio is in favour of vaccination

10% would be high. Including undiscovered cases, we had maybe 10% of the population infected in Germany over the last 12 months. The stop to investigate might last only a week and one could envision an interim recommendation to use AZ on over-70s only and switch under-70s to BNT.

Perhaps high, but certainly not unlikely. And sure, there are many things that they could've done rather than halting the rollout entirely which is a decision that I think we are both confused about!
