It is APPALLING that the CDC has no fucking clue where or whether covid cases are in schools. https://twitter.com/GeoRebekah/status/1319449294928306177 …

A lot of things are super nuts about COVID-19 testing in the US. I'm still pretty shocked that the CDC hasn't set up a national random seroprevalence sample for antibody screening - at least a dozen other countries have!

@DiseaseEcology @BillHanage @CovidSerology @MarkHoofnagle @CT_Bergstrom This is probably the best we're going to get for the USA in terms of nation-wide, representative SARS-CoV-2 seroprevalence (without including seroprevalence from vaccination).https://twitter.com/DiseaseEcology/status/1354626316314660864 …

#epitwitter - can you link me to high quality (randomized sample or nearly so; NOT residual sera) serosurveys in the US in the last 2 months? Would love to compare crude estimates of total infections (CDC, @youyanggu) to rigorous data. Thank you!

Thanks! Unfortunately, participation rate is so low, enormous biases can't be ruled out. Very unfortunate & study is already obsolete b/c it was done before holiday surge. Sad.

Bizarre that they only released the results now, and at a conference. They've been sitting on this since, what, November? Would've been extremely important then!

Can’t tell where you live, but we had an administration that figured if case numbers were suppressed, then the disease was defeated. #QED

I am sure we will be talking long into the 2020s about what could have been done if only data were released promptly

Data thru October presented in March is a historical book report We need the UK ONS approach to systematic surveillance- hoping this becomes the case with the new administration

Re: "We need the UK ONS approach to systematic surveillance" It's even stronger than that, since there were 3 groups doing surveillance: ONS: https://www.ndm.ox.ac.uk/covid-19/covid-19-infection-survey/results/weekly-updates … REACT-2: https://www.imperial.ac.uk/medicine/research-and-impact/groups/react-study/real-time-assessment-of-community-transmission-findings/ … UK BioBank:https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/uk-biobank-covid-19-antibody-study-final-results …
