If I were trying to encourage a culture of academic civility I'd probably avoid insinuating that my colleagues were completely unqualified and/or directly attacking them on social media, but I guess that's just me
Lots of people get attacked ruthlessly for having views on COVID-19 all the time. There's currently at least two threads in German where people are calling me names, and yesterday I was defamed by a fairly senior academic for the second time this week

It’s not unique on Twitter. I can still remember doing a presentation on my research and a senior faculty member calling my research “bullshit” in front of the entire department. Apparently I contradicted one of his pet theories. My advisor said he’s always been an asshole.

Yikes! Maybe the solution is to not read German?

Lol maybe. Point is, people are mean on Twitter. I get a heap of nasty stuff every time I write something positive about vaccines. Also, the culture of academic civility only ever covered tenured professors, who don't really need protection, and ignored all the students who do
