Anyway, if the pandemic has shown nothing else it's that virtually no one who claims to think that academic civility is important is willing to walk the walk when it comes to their own actions

Isn't this what happened to
@MLevitt_NP2013,@MartinKulldorff, John Ioannidis, Scott Atlas, et al? I'm not saying I agree with all their views, but I recall many in academia also called them unqualified and ruthlessly attacked them on Twitter. Not you, of course, but others. -
I don't know about their qualifications, but plenty of their analyses clearly lacked rigor, disproportionate to the strength of the claims and recommendations they have been pushing on the grounds of their results.
