It was always predictable that COVID-19 denialism would morph into anti-vaccine advocacy because it was never about public health, it was always about attacking government measures

The Great Barrington Declaration was sponsored by an organisation that promotes tobacco smoking, denies global warming, and lies about asbestos. There's a reason no serious public health scientists signed it!

If your entire philosophy is predicated on reactionary outrage over any government intervention it's pretty much a given that you'd move on to being anti-vaccine when safe+effective vaccines came out for COVID

I understand having philosophical disagreements with government interventions, but the point is that none of this was ever actually about how many people died or suffered, and that is being thrown into stark relief now that vaccines are out

The vaccines throw into stark relief just how little they cared about a real cost benefit analysis, bc the vaccines are a no brainer with benefits >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> costs.

What do you think of this? Protect risk groups globally like WHO says? Sounds like focused protection to me?https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/jan/30/who-urges-britain-to-pause-covid-jabs-after-treating-vulnerable …

No. It's not. This is focused protection as defined by the GBD itself, off of the FAQ page. I think that all of these things would have been wonderful to have but fail in the face of reality. 1. Nursing home staff work at multiple locations due to pay. You’re point doesn’t make sense? Government restrictions don’t reflect the risk to public health for example, masks came in 4 months after a novel virus ravaged Europe, lockdowns were never proven to work VS Sweden & many US states. masks have not changed the curve!?

I agree that their differences with you over government interventions are less legitimate than yours, because they will not push them in a manner you find intellectually acceptable.

Is epidemiological community without fault? Have you all remained immune from the influence of politics? I keep bouncing this rather outrageous data point off your set and so far crickets. Someone gonna say something? You know, in the name of science?https://twitter.com/DouglasPollitt/status/1369048729735593985?s=19 …

There has been considerable anti-science noise on both sides of the debate. Here is Fisman arguing that risks of in-school transmission are excessive using a Swiss seroprevalence study that showed <!> no evidence of in-school transmission. He omitted this in his LRB submission. pic.twitter.com/vWLE4T3pVm
