Both things can be true: The Covid vaccines are fantastic and much better than anyone had hoped for, and vaccinated people will not die or be hospitalized. The Covid vaccines may not entirely prevent transmission of the virus so vaccinated people should still wear masks.

I simply do not understand the pushback against anyone who dares to say that vaccinated people may still need to wear a mask. Is the benefit of having your LIFE SAVED not enough to choose the vaccine? Must you be told you can immediately throw away all masks in order to do that?

You get the vaccine for yourself. You wear the mask for others who may not be immunized yet. There is *nothing* complicated here and NO NEED to choose sides.

The issue is that the goalposts have been moved since day 1. Flatten the curve. 15 days to control the spread. In NY (and I'm sure other areas), we had the 4 phases of reopening. Finally, we were told vaccines were the end, but now that may be changing...

and by the way, vaccines ARE the end. they're just not the end as soon as the one person in question is vaccinated -- wait for everyone else to be protected, too. Do your civid duty. That's all we're saying.

I think people have misunderstood what "the end" would look like from the start. Back to normal immediately was never really on the cards, no matter the rhetoric of the denialists

I would argue that this is because one side was constantly flooding the zone with "easy fix" or "just let it go" or "its made up". Now the arguments are "why are these scientists wet blankets about everything" or "now it is a never-ending scam"

I also think the medical/scientific community could have been clearer about the dual function of vaccines as both (1) personal protection and (2) community health programs to reduce prevalence. Most people misunderstood the importance of that second goal.
