It's a bit misleading. The likelihood is that vaccine protection will be long lasting, and the current 3-month incidence in many places is much higher than the article implies. Over a year, the incidence in the US has approached 30%

So imagine a scenario where 300 in 1,000 people caught COVID-19 without the vaccine. If it was 95% effective, and everyone was vaccinated, only 15 people would've caught the disease

But even then this overstates the effect because of herd effects. The reality is that a 95% effective vaccine with a fully vaccinated population would almost entirely prevent the disease
