The Facebook action in Australia appears to include official health pages for the government which is...incredibly offensive and inappropriate during a global pandemicpic.twitter.com/wmLY1XXQGM

Don't blame Facebook solely, blame the government acting on behalf of blackmailers Murdoch and 9.

No one but Facebook is responsible for removing official government health pages that distribute COVID-19 information from their platform

Actually I think its arguable that these pages do come under the broad definition of news given in the poorly constructed legislation.

That is simply not true. Firstly, most of these organizations would fail the revenue test. They would also fail the content test, under which an organization must *primarily* create core news content to qualify

If you read the legislation you'll find its definition and scope very wide. It's very poorly worded and should not have been passed by the LNP, the ALP and The Greens all of which are terrified of News Corp the main beneficiary of the media code along with Costello's 9.

The legislation is broad when it defines news content, but is much more restricted in what counts as an organisation for the purposes of the actual implementation. Have you bothered to actually read it?

Under 52G it does seem to suggest that the government fb pages could count as an unregistered news business as defined by 52N,O & P...tbf I'd have to read the act stared in 52P.1.a. do you have anything clearer about the distinctions?
