Hey plant twitter! Are there any examples of plants that taste good but will kill you? Or even make you very sick? Just plants, not fungi.

Debatable whether it tastes "good", but liquorice can cause hyperkalemia and there are reports of people dying after eating too much https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/black-licorice-trick-or-treat#:~:text=Glycyrrhizin%20can%20cause%20potassium%20levels,lethargy%2C%20and%20congestive%20heart%20failure ….

Yes, that one's pretty well established. You have to eat a lot, though! Also, l don't think people are at risk from the actual licorice root, just the candy.

You could probably get enough of the substance from liquorice tea if it was strong? Either way, you do have to have quite a bit of it (or a serious predisposition to hyperkalemia) for it to be an issue I believe

I can think of a few more (cinnamon can be toxic in high doses), but I think they're all pretty much the same thing - if you eat a TON of something tasty you might eventually get sick. Not sure if that's what you're looking for tho

Not really. More looking for taking a flyer on a wild plant. Risky? Probably not.

I reckon the key would be to learn the relatively small number of plants that can outright kill you to avoid them, then everything else is probably going to be pretty low risk
