I'd love to, it's been ages since I made it to Barcelona. Do you work there? I'm honestly confused, it would be really good to speak to someone from the hospital

I live and work here. I am a researcher working in cancer and, since last year, COVID. I know phyiscians and researchers at all major hospitals in Barcelona. I thought your critique of the paper was kind of ok until you turned conspiranoic. You have put me totally off. Terrible

I'm just really confused about all of this. Were there really full COVID-19 wards at the very start of March in Barcelona? When there were 3 confirmed cases in the city and the hospital's only announcement was about dementia research?

The study is from March through May. You should have been here in April-May. IMO, the problem rests upon you. Your suspicions and "doubts" begin to smack of good old white British arrogance, supremacy and dismissal of poorish Spain. Bye.

Oh cheer up. This study is riddled with inexplicable elements, and feels like Raoult II: Return Of The Certitude. Do you have any idea how dangerous it is that this goes unchallenged? If you're at the hospital, write the authors and get us the data.

I am for scientific caution. I am a scientist. What is unacceptable is the implicit racism/supremacism aired by the commenter. The guy who questions whether this Spanish hospital did actually have 8 wards would never question that of a hospital located in London or in New York.

Also, wouldn't I? It's not at all about the number of wards, it's about the timing - I sincerely doubt any hospitals in London had 8 COVID-19 wards on March 1st, and probably none in NYC either. People were complacent until it was too late back in early 2020

Anyway, with the authors' update on PubPeer it no longer really matters. If it's a prospective cohort study, whether they had all 8 wards fully set up on March 1st is immaterial, because the assignment was not random regardless

Exactly. Still, please do not apply again your conspiranoic thinking to brown country hospitals. Apply them also to white country hospitals. Or to none.
