If vaccine penetrance is high, severe disease can be almost eliminated. I'd worry far more about the unvaccinated human reservoir.

But... wouldn’t it have shown up by now, over a year into the pandemic?

Many possibilities, we don't have enough information yet unfortunately. People not testing pets for COVID, could be a false positive, might be a mutation that now makes it zoonotic.

But we have known cats can get COVID-19 and transmit it to other cats for a while, haven't we?https://www.nejm.org/doi/full/10.1056/nejmc2013400 …

Yep, but it's worrying if there are consistent examples of it happening in the real world

Mine got sick... more importantly I thought feline->human infection was debunked in China, Italy & EU (obvs I had much personal interest to watch closely for this info)

I didn't know it was debunked, do you have a link to some research by any chance?

We've known for a while that cats can get COVID from humans. Usually the cats don't get very sick, so it could be happening more often than we realize. I don't believe there are any known cases of it spreading back to humans.

If this was common, places like Wuhan and Melbourne wouldn't have had months without unexplained cases after large waves. So I'm optimistic this won't be a major problem
