But that is also muddied by which NPI different countries implemented and how, compare Vietnam vs UK for the extremes. Border closures and very smart test/trace/isolate vs blunt long painful lockdowns.

I think they're also non-linear in the number of cases. It's hard to compare the efficacy, in terms of the effect on R, of measures that are useful with few cases (border closures, TTI) and measures that can bring down super-high prevalence to merely moderately high (lockdowns).

yep. In retrospect (and possibly in prospect!), India's lockdown caused utter misery, achieved nothing in terms of Covid control and increased deaths due to other causes.

Interesting—I interpreted
