This stuff is fascinating. Pay to low-income workers would increase by $509 billion under the bill, but the CBO has assumed that this is a fixed system and that higher wages -> higher prices -> less spending -> fewer jobshttps://twitter.com/nypost/status/1358835801946259457 …

Even more interesting is when you really dig into the weeds. For example, half of all those 'lost' jobs are estimated to be from teens working at the minimum wagepic.twitter.com/Gds1XdkUK0

This is a problem that is quite easily solvable. In Australia we have age-adjusted minimum wages for precisely this reasonpic.twitter.com/8qZw2uJ7uh

Economic laws are called laws because they are pretty good at predicting outcomes. They predict that a price floor on labour will drive unproductive workers out of the market. There is just no way to regulate away productivity issues.

There is definitely a need to raise minimum wage in some places, but $15 across the board is just dumb. You hurt people and a sell out to interest groups just to say you did it. BTW higher wages makes it cheaper to do the work in countries with lower wages / slave labor

In L.A. County one of the branches of a discount food market I shopped at before the pandemic closed down over the requirement to give the grocery workers combat pay (well deserved but perhaps not doable because of the market's very low profit margin). It is not an easy problem.
