As an Australian who is going to two parties, dining in-person at a restaurant, and seeing a live show this weekend the idea that #ZeroCovid is not compatible with individual rights and freedoms just seems bizarrely out of touchhttps://twitter.com/BallouxFrancois/status/1357776017117560833 …

You can’t leave Australia dude. Stop lying. You have to apply for an exit visa. Those are only issued under incredibly strict conditions and mainly only for the rich and famous.

That being said, the risk of travelling at the moment is extreme, especially with regards to bringing COVID-19 back to the country so I'm not sure why I'd want to leave until other countries have become safe

Some countries share land borders w/close family/relatives on the other side.Might be perfectly legitimate reasons (which you may reasonably disagree with) for visiting them, and for feeling that liberties are seriously infringed if this is exceedingly difficult for a long period

Big question too. Pre-pandemic, what % of the world population could afford flying around the globe? Sounds more like privilege rather than liberty.

People say this as a gotcha as if US citizens can freely outside of the country.

I think minimal is the wrong word, given how many people in the UK have friends and family on the Continent whom we can't meet

My granddaughters’ (4 & 6) other grandparents are Oz. They are utterly beyond distraught. They’ve missed 2 regular trips to uk so far & have no idea when they’ll be able to come again. They feel like prisoners.

My parents don't feel like this at all. They absolutely miss being able to visit their grandkids here, but instead of having to cocoon, they're out living their lives. I also love that I have no fear for their health.
