Hi @liammannix do you have link to the "10 RCTs showing 63 percent protection against COVID 19" in your paper this afternoon? https://www.theage.com.au/national/i-m-the-virus-expert-cited-by-mp-craig-kelly-vaccines-are-critical-but-he-s-not-all-wrong-20210204-p56zfc.html …

This claim needs to be taken with a pinch of salt. The 63% level of protection in the original article this is largely self-plagiarised from gave the calculation as "1 - O.R. = protection" which is very wrong.https://twitter.com/K_Sheldrick/status/1356918554352787456 …

Let's talk about some of the things he gets wrong. He specifically states that "1 - Odds ratio = protection". This isn't right. 1/2 https://twitter.com/K_Sheldrick/status/1356914282806435845 …

I'm also pretty sure it's entirely wrong, given that the few high-quality studies on HCQ have all been null

I really hope it's not the MA that Craig Kelly has been spruiking because that one has... issues.https://twitter.com/K_Sheldrick/status/1356945910740054019 …

In the first RCT "Huang et al." none of the patients actually received hydroxychloroquine, and the drug isn't mentioned anywhere in the study. This seems... like a bad start. 8/

There are two awful analyses that are usually cited, but without any referencing or basic fact-checking by @theage I guess we'll never know
